Second Campaign for Mental Health Recovery Regional Forum
Many state coordinators for the CMHR already have full workloads. Their titles vary, but few coordinators are public relations or marketing professionals. Their organizations do not receive additional funding or staff to lead the CMHR statewide effort; yet, in many States the coordinators are successfully incorporating the CMHR into their on-going programs and stigma reduction activities. The SAMHSA ADS Center sponsored this event to enable state coordinators and partners to hear from their colleagues who are successfully spreading the CMHR message without initiating a special anti-stigma initiative, adding additional staff or funding, or using a marketing/communications professional.

Carol Coussons de Reyes, CPS, MS

Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, & Addictive Disease
Mrs. Coussons de Reyes is a Certified Peer Specialist and the Director of Consumer Relations and Recovery Section with the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Addictive Disease in Georgia. She also is a member of the National Consumer Survivor Mental Health Administrators and a statewide coordinator for the CMHR. As the state coordinator for the CMHR in Georgia, Mrs. Coussons de Reyes is working diligently to integrate the Campaign into her daily assignments and activities. Carol speaks as often as possible on her lived experience with mental health issues, recovery, and creativity. Other roles that define her include being a wife, an aunt, a writer, a poet, and an artist.
Patricia Davis-Salyer, M.Ed.,
Mental Health Training Coordinator/Specialist
Oregon Department of Human Services, Addictions and Mental Health Division
Ms. Davis-Salyer considers her highest and life-time calling to be a parent, advocate, and teacher. Ms. Davis-Salyer has been an educator in mental health services for 21 years. Her current areas of focus are to promote trauma-sensitive services, recovery and resiliency models in mental health and addiction services, wellness and prevention for all ages, and behavioral health workforce development (which includes peer delivered services). Her mantra is, “We are people, JUST people…you and me! Not a consumer, customer, or client…those are just labels. I’m a person, and my name is Pat.” She will take her advocacy skills to a new volunteer position as President of NAMI-Marion/Polk Counties in Oregon. She also is a state coordinator for the CMHR in Oregon and has worked extensively to build statewide interest in the CMHR without additional staff or funding.
