2005 SAMHSA/CMHS Voice Awards [view video]

The SAMHSA/CMHS Voice Awards were developed to acknowledge film, television, and radio writers and producers whose work has given a voice to people with mental health problems by portraying them in a dignified, respectful, and accurate manner. The Voice Awards also acknowledge the efforts of mental health advocates, departments of mental health, and other partners in eight States piloting the Elimination of Barriers Initiative (EBI). For more information about the Eliminations of Barriers Initiative and the 2005 SAMHSA/CMHS Voice Awards, see http://www.allmentalhealth.samhsa.gov.

The 2005 Voice Awards were sponsored by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) in partnership with the American Psychiatric Foundation, the American Psychological Association, the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors, and the Mental Health Media Partnership.

The event was co-hosted by award-winning actress Mariette Hartley and noted journalist Kathleen Sullivan. Material for these videos was provided by Just Life Productions, Pasadena, California. SAMHSA will build on the success of this first ceremony by holding another Voice Awards event in 2006.
